What Pucelle’s Fragrance Designer Said About Perfume Trend in 2023

The year 2023 is coming really fast! Just like how it always goes, the new year marks the change of trends of all aspects, including perfume trends, and to add more excitement, we had an insightful conversation with Pauline Zeller, one of Pucelle's Fragrance Designers. Pauline is the person behind the creation of our beloved Pucelle Audacity Le Parfum, her career in Fragrance has been around for 10 years!


We truly are curious about the Perfume Trend predictions for 2023 according to Pauline, including what kind of fragrance scent or type of fragrance will lead the trend in 2023. Let’s go through our convo session with Pauline!

The first thing that we discussed together was the type of fragrance that would be a trend in 2023. According to Pauline, there will be 2 types of fragrance that will be largely hyped in 2023; Gourmand and Fruity fragrances. Moreover, considering current Indonesian consumers (regardless of gender), they are starting to accept sweet and gourmand fragrances more and more. This type of fragrance will be the driving force behind a new era of fragrance in Indonesia.

A little note for our HitsBae who are unfamiliar with the term "Gourmand": Gourmand fragrance is a scent that makes you smell like dessert. Simply said, it smells delicious enough to eat. For example, ingredients such as Praline, Hazelnut, and Chocolate are widely used as Gourmand fragrances.

The next type of fragrance that will continue to be a trend in 2023 is  Fruity scent. Fruity fragrance will still be the favorite choice for perfume lovers and will also become essential in feminine fragrances. Fruity fragrance gives freshness and clean impressions similar to the beauty products that we use every day. The reassuring character of the Fruity fragrance will shift towards playful.

Since Viva Magenta will be the color of 2023, it is predicted that Red Berry will be the main star. Raspberry, Strawberry, and Lychee fragrance notes will be trending everywhere. Such great news for the lovers of Gourmand and Fruity fragrances!

Gourmand and Fruity fragrances are expected to become a trend in 2023 since perfume users nowadays are dominated by Gen Z, so Gen Z preferences must be listened to well and considered. Meanwhile, Gen Z preferences are undergoing some shifts. They are becoming more aware and growing curious about perfume and its ingredients. Their taste is even bolder. Gen Z wants fun and unique scents to boost their mood. Curiosity and the desire to be unique are what drive the trend of preference for sweet and Gourmand fragrances for all genders.

Next, we talked about which perfume categories will be the favorites in 2023. Pauline sees the possibility that consumers will remain loyal to their favorite brands and perfumes. But, they want more premium perfumes with a higher concentration. If you look at high-end perfume brands, they created more Eau de Parfum and Parfum. So, consumers can get their favorite perfume with a richer character, stronger performance, and a more long-lasting fragrance.
